When you need a sweeter fix
About the Mixed Fruit Fertility Smoothie
By: Nathan Dippie
Sometimes you can only have so much greens and seeds in your smoothies so this one is that little treat for occasions when you need a change. This one is sweeter and more indulgent than the others. As such it’s not an everyday smoothie. But I’m sure to have this one once every couple of weeks. I love drinking it with Rachel in the evening in place of a desert as the copious amount of sweet fruit hits that spot when you just need that sweet fix. Plus it has benefits for male and female reproductive health. This one is a treat. Plus the mixture of the folate and vitamin C in pears and the antioxidants in pomegranates make this an almost guilt free treat.
- 1 cup or 225g peeled Pears
- 1/4 cup or 45g pomegranate seeds
- 1.5 cups or 200g Frozen Strawberries
- 1 Frozen banana
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup or 250ml Almond milk
- Small grating Fresh Ginger (Optional)
This is a real treat, it’s full of fruity sweetness and I have one every couple of weeks. This is not an every day fruity smoothie. However having said that the pomegranate is absolutely packed with antioxidants which have been proven to be great for both women’s and men’s fertility. The almond milk and the other fruits offer lot’s of vitamins and minerals which are also great for general health and well being.
My favorite way to have this fertility smoothie is as a pudding to take away that chocolate craving I get after my main meal.
You can easily replace the almond milk with coconut water or even filtered water. Using frozen strawberries and bananas make this super refreshing. Finally i absolutely love the health benefits of fresh ginger and think it works brilliantly with this recipe.
This fruity fertility smoothie full of anti-oxidants, vitamin C and the pears bring a good dose of folate all of which are great for fertility. As part of a balanced diet the addition of this smoothie will ensure you improve your reproductive health.
- Folate 47% 47%
- Antioxidants 51% 51%
- Vitamin C 73% 73%
Step by Step Instructions for the Mixed fruit Fertility Smoothie
You can blend you pears raw, however we find this smoothie recipe is even better if you peel the pears and poach them for 20 minutes the evening before and leave them covered in the fridge overnight. Whilst doing this, place a banana and your strawberries in the freezer.
Chop and peel the rest of your fruits.
Add all the ingredients to your blender set it to your highest setting. Blitz for about 90 seconds until smooth
Serve this in a glass over ice for a refreshing evening treat to share.
If you’re partner isn’t having the 2nd portion put it in an air tight container and place it in the fridge. Drink within the next 48 hours. just add another 2-3 ice cubes and blend again to revitalise the smoothie.
